FOOTBALL

TEAMS

MiniRoos

We offer MiniRoos teams based football for ages 8–11. Girls who play in these non-competitive age groups play versions of small sided football (soccer) in a home and away format i.e. some games at our home ground and others at the opposition’s home ground.

The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment whilst gradually building skills and game awareness. More information about MiniRoos can be found in the Parent Information Pack on Team App.

Juniors

Juniors is for ages 12–17, where the pitch size starts to increase and results are recorded.

Playing football (soccer) in the teen years provides opportunities to form friendships outside of school, build resilience and confidence, get fit and have fun.

More information on competition guidelines for this age group can be found on our TeamApp.

Seniors

In 2024, we will have 3 senior teams competing in the state 2, 4 and 5 leagues in Melbourne's north-west competition.

Confirmation of teams will be made by February 2024 and registered players will be informed about competing teams as soon as possible.

Our senior women’s teams welcome all players aged 17 and older.

We cater to a wide range of skill levels from first time through to experienced players. We focus on being competitive and challenging ourselves within a fun, social and supportive environment.

TRAINING

Juniors & MiniRoos

Players are encouraged to attend both sessions.

The training program focuses on developing skills and game knowledge to help build individual confidence and ability in a supportive and friendly environment.

Junior coaching is structured around FFA’s National Curriculum:

  • U6–U8 Discovery Phase

  • U9–U12 Skills Acquisition Phase (SAP)

  • U13–U16 Game Training Phase

We are a proud FV SAP-affiliated club which is testament to the club’s intent to help support the development of young players via the delivery of a consistent program aimed at improving football in Victoria.

Seniors

Pre-season training begins 16th January 2024 with the season competition beginning April 2024. Each team will be provided with their pre-season and training schedule in January. Each team will work with coach and pitch availability regarding training sessions and game day. Teams could train on any given night of week and games could be played Friday evening and Sunday.

All new and returning players are encouraged to attend all training sessions, especially preseason as it forms a critical component to match fitness and team building process.

Time: 7:00–8:30pm

Day: Senior teams will train across Tues, Wed, Thurs (team dependent)

Location: Johnson Reserve, West Footscray (during pre-season this may vary according to pitch availability and coaching program).

The Swifts coaching team will have a focus on injury prevention in 2024 with a strength and conditioning program forming part of the pre-season program.

The Senior Coaching Coordinator and coaching staff will select team squads as early as possible in pre-season, based on the club’s Team Selection Policy.

Players registering to play at State League 2 level are expected to train twice a week and retain technical skills and fitness to guarantee a position on team throughout the season. More social teams will have less intense training requirements as negotiated with the coaching staff.

If you can’t make it to a training session that’s okay but let one of our coaches know through the TeamApp team chat so they can plan their sessions ahead of time.
