Swifts Head Down Great Ocean Road for End of Season Trip

Maribyrnong Swifts players decided to spend a weekend in down the Great Ocean Road in picturesque Skeens Creek to unwind and relax after a great 2012 season.

Girls set up tents and camped or squeezed into a cosy little caravan alongside stunning beach views. There was a very smoky but warm campfire but unfortunately no-one brought any marsh mellows for roasting! But not to worry there was plenty of cake and giant chocolate brownies to last the whole weekend. Players were accompanied by their many pooches that joined in for a yummy breakfast in Apollo Bay, a wander through the Saturday Market, and a (mini) hike to Marriners lookout which overlooked the Great Ocean Road for kilometres and made for some interesting photos!

After a rockpool ramble along the beach everyone then had enough energy to learn some awesome circus skills with Buzz and then play some barefoot soccer on the grass.

Lunch was, you guessed it, fish and chips on the beach (and more chocolate brownie!) then the bare foot soccer moved to less familiar territory for our Swifts, if you don’t count our old goal mouths, THE SAND!  Our pitch was set and it was game on! Crazy tackles and diving into the soft sand made for some entertaining soccer, which eventually evolved into an all out game of rugby with even more ridiculous tackles and face planting into the sand.

After a well earned drink break Swifts ladies decided to break out some very patriotic interpretational dance moves to spell out “MSFC” and “SWIFTS” for the camera, which look great I might add!

A special thanks to Emma our Social Secretary for organising the trip; everyone had a great time away and can’t wait for next year’s trip!
